This adorable family was referred to me by a client I photographed a couple of years ago. I feel so blessed to have referrals come my way, I have some pretty amazing clients and friends. This cute little family was a blast to photograph and the location was spectacular. It was so fun to see these brothers together. I felt like I was looking into my future with how my own little boys will be together one day. I just love photographing families, it's always such a great time.

Meet Carston

We are proud to announce the newest member of our family. Carston Michael was born

June 30th, 2011. 6 pounds 4 ounces, 18.5 inches long. A big thanks to my amazing hubby for capturing a lot of these photos, since I was preoccupied during some of them ;)

This was the first labor and delivery photo session I have done, and I'm really glad it was my own. Bringing a baby into the world is such an amazing experience, there really is nothing like it. I'm so grateful for the gift of photography so I'm able to document these huge life moments. I will forever cherish these photos that my husband and I took during the labor and delivery of our second precious baby boy. We love him so much!!

This little guy is absolutely adorable. I couldn't get enough of him. Seriously so sweet. His parents are pretty cool too :) His mama is one amazing woman and his dad is a hero (in my eyes, anyway) anyone that can do what he does in the military is a total stud.

This session goes in my books as one of my all time favorites. So glad I was able to capture the love these new parents have for their precious baby boy.

Congrats again you guys. SO happy for you!!

Spring 2011

It has been raining nonstop for about 3 weeks now and I'm so sick of it. We've had maybe 2 days of semi-sunshine in that time and when those rare days occur here...I take FULL advantage and get outside with my camera. The blossoms here are beautiful. It's been so rainy and cold though they have started to appear about a whole month later than they did last year. So sad for us. Cannot wait until summer and we are complaining about the heat. I still love it here, but 60% chance of rain every day starts to get old. Especially when you have a very energetic two year old who just wants to go out and play.

Western Caribbean Travels

The hubbs and I went on an amazing Caribbean cruise a couple of weeks ago- without our 2 year old. Yeah...it was awesome :) Even though I wasn't able to take a TON of photos there because it was such a beach/ocean type of vacation, where we did a lot of snorkeling and being in the water, it was still really nice to be back in the game of photography when I had the chance. I feel like I have been kinda out of it the past few months and this fueled the fire again :) I love, love, love photography. We had a fabulous time on our vacation, and I was again in awe at how beautiful this earth is!

I thought I'd better post these before I put up some from our most recent vacation to the Western Caribbean last week. Last October (yes, I'm 4 months late posting, yikes!)I had an AMAZING opportunity to go on a "work" trip to Cab San Lucas with the owners and top sales employees of Nationwide Security Solutions. The trip was an incentive for the top sales people and I was asked to come along and photograph their vacation so they would have photos for their website and magazines later. WOW. I am one lucky girl! I had a great time. Cabo is beautiful. I cannot wait to go back with my own family (hubbs has never been there) Thanks again to Jason and Mairin Cane for the wonderful opportunity you gave me. I learned a lot, had a fabulous time, and have beautiful photos from the trip. I'm told the very top photo on the post was even featured in a magazine. Again, I'm a lucky girl :)

Mine is the left, my sister's is the right. I love the difference in these photos. An overcast and rainy Washington winter versus a snowy Utah winter. We are only on the second post of this project and I'm having so much fun doing this together.

{F} Family Session

I had such a great time at this big family session. I have to admit, I was a little nervous when I was hired to do a session for this family. There were 7 kids, and 5 adults in all. The weather was freezing cold- 35 degrees to be exact, but there was no wind, the perfect amount of cloud cover and most important- NO rain! All the kids were very, very well behaved and we got through the session pretty darn quick... I was really impressed! I love the fun waterfront locations in this area, and this is one of my favorite spots. Thanks again to some amazing clients who make my job so much fun!

The 2011 Project

With one project finished, I'm on to the next. My sister and I will have the same theme for a photo a couple times a month and will post our photos side by side. We live in different states, so it will be fun and interesting to see what our different ideas and perspectives on each theme will be. I love photography projects, and it will be fun to have a partner in crime on this one. It's a great way to keep me being creative and it gets me out photographing. Looking forward to what this next year in photos will be!

Week #52- the final photo

My final photo is in honor of the love I have for my photography equipment. I wouldn't be where I am without it :) Missing in the photo is my fabulous new nikon D90, and new 50mm f/1.8 lens, which I had to use to take this photo. I have been fortunate enough to be able to work on building my photography gear this year. Also included are a few vintage things that were given to me from an amazing friend. I can't wait to have my own studio/office one day to display a fun collection of vintage cameras and lenses. This Minolta was the first.

It's been an amazing year and I'm so glad I was able to do this 52 week project. It's fun to look back through all the photos and see what I've accomplished within photography and my personal life in the past year. I'm looking forward to the new project I'm starting soon with my sister, it's going to be a lot of fun.

A big thanks to all my fabulous clients, mentors, friends, and family for an amazing year. I truly appreciate all of your love and support.

This photo session was done in the drizzly pacific northwest rain, these guys were troopers! These are some friends we met when we first moved to the state, and knew no one. We've had a lot of good times together and I consider them to be forever friends. They are expecting a baby girl the end of December and I couldn't be more thrilled for them! Love you guys!

This was one of my hardest sessions. ever. Toddler TWINS! Trying to get them to hold still long enough AND smiling while looking at me, I had to be very silly, trying everything to get their attention. I even sang- I never sing, for anyone. This was my first session working in downtown Portland. I love this city, it has alot of fun and insteresting locations. A very nice mechanic guy that was working on a car that morning even opened his garage and let us shoot by a beat up volkswagen bug, made for a very fun shot. I had a great morning with this family and the timing was perfect- it started pouring rain just as we were leaving! Gotta love Portland weather.

Cabo San Lucas.

I was hired to photograph at a corporate event for Nationwide Security Solutions for 5 days. Really tough job, right?! I was told by another photographer, "It's every photographer's dream to travel with a client like that" so...I'm feeling very lucky and blessed that I was able to go on such a trip and have such a great experience! I had an amazing time with the owners Jason and Mairin and their employees who earned this all inclusive trip as a bonus for all their hard work. I was able to photograph them at the pool, jet skiing, parasailing, clubbing, and just having a good time relaxing! More pics to come from my trip, but this was one of my ultimate favorites!

While I was visiting in Utah a couple of weeks ago, I met up with one of my best friends and she hired me to take photos of her youngest boy, little {e} for his one year pictures . We had a great day at Wheeler Farm with our kiddos. This little guy is darling and was so much fun to photograph. I'm SO greatful I was able to spend the day with my friend hanging out, making memories and doing what I love.

I have been fan of Deb Schwedhelm, a photographer on facebook and a follower of her blog for some time and she had done this post back in May- my sister had also linked to this post on her blog, so I know it has touched a lot of people out there. It didn't really hit home for me until recently. A dear friend and mentor of mine who is SO amazing and that I have really admired and looked up to for many years, is slowly passing away from a very long battle with cancer. It breaks my heart so much and I think of her daily. I hope and pray that her family will be comforted at this time. They were able to go on a short family vacation and get some photos taken while they were there. Her family will be able to look at and cherish these photos long after she is gone...so read this blog post from Deb Schwedhelm Photography and ask yourself- Is there a perfect time?? Whether you have a professional shoot done or you set up your camera on a timer, TAKE PICTURES NOW so you have them in the future!!

Lac De' Fleur Gardens

This place was like the "Secret Garden". These gardens are a private residence that open to the public every so often. One of my friends has connections to the owner so we went for a few hours and it was awesome. We met the owner and he gave us a very detailed tour of the gardens. They bought the land in 1996, there is 20 acres in all. His wife saw potential in the overgrown swamp land when she noticed trees growing there that are not native to this area. She knew that someone had been there years before, trying to make it beautiful. Over the years as they have worked on it, they have discovered many hidden structures and things that were built by the original owner, a Doctor in the 1950's. There was a kiln, picnic tables, the pond, waterways and waterfalls all connected with pipes. There were old gates, and carvings in the floor of one building. This was much more than a cool photography field trip for me, I love old antique stuff like this, especially when I get to learn the story behind it.

My amazing friend Misty gave me the most thoughtful birthday gift.. A very inspiring photography book. She is so awesome, Im so lucky to have her as a friend. I remember looking at photos from my very own baby's six week photo shoot, and crying because I was so touched at what the photographer- Denise Clegg had produced for us. She has captured such beautiful photos and memories that my husband and I will cherish forever and ever. I'm so grateful I was able to get the same sort of reaction from someone else after they trusted me to take photos of their precious baby girl. It puts a huge smile on my face, and touches my heart..THIS is what it's all about.

I heart photo classes

I had the opportunity to attend an all day photoshop/photography class last week. I learned a lot from it and I am even more inspired now to take classes and get all the experience and education I can in photography and photoshop. I've had these photos in a folder on my computer for awhile, not knowing quite how I wanted to edit them. Thanks to some techniques I learned in the class I was able to edit them to get the look I wanted. The car wasn't origionally that color, and I added some warm tones to the overall photo. The gazebo photo had a huge telephone pole right in the middle of the background that was very distracting. I'm so grateful for the amazing photographers out there that are so willing to spend time educating others.

We have had the most incredible weather here the past few days. Can't beat blue skies and 60 degrees in February, I love it. It gets me out in the sunshine and taking pics. We have a beautiful lake here with amazing forests that surround it and endless walking trails through it. So, on Saturday we went with some friends for a walk. No matter how many times I walk through this area, Im always still in awe at it's beauty, and that I live HERE to see it all..whenever I want.
